Cinqueterre
Manarola, one of the five villages of the Cinqueterre, on the Ligurian coast. Not sure if I would go on holiday there now that it is on every bucket list on the planet. I feel fortunate to have discovered it nearly 30 years ago, when we were living just across the border in Cannes and, later, Nice. Fishing was still as important as tourism then, and they are doing their best to protect the integrity of the place. But it is not easy, as discovered when visited in 2016 for an AFP story about the pressures created by mass tourism on places like this. This was the piece I wrote:
